Hi All,

At work, they're going to treat me to a 'new' phone; actually, it probably won't be new, but rather, someone else's old phone. Where I work, I'm very low in the hierarchy; the 'important' people are all being given iPhone 11s.

I'll be given a 'hand-me-down', either a used iPhone 8 or possibly, a brand new iPhone 7 (or at least, they say it is 'new'). I should mention, work will be picking up the tab for the running of these phones, so I shouldn't be too ungrateful. {Be nice to have a paid-for iPhone 11}.

Question is, if faced with a used iPhone 8 or a 'brand new' iPhone 7, which should I go for ? I believe that the iPhone 7 has a metal back - so it might be a tad more durable (?), whereas on the iPhone 8 it is glass.

If you had the choice, which would you choose and why ?

There isn't much between them honestly.

The 7 is lighter and the 8 can do wireless charging.

You can just use a lightning adapter or Bluetooth headphones. Not sure the love for headphone jacks.

I’d go for the 8 it will feel quicker and the battery is likely to be better.

My work even provided cases and screen protectors to try to avoid us all breaking them.

I'd go for an 8. I bought a new one about a year ago and really I can't fault it. I'd still rather have my 8 than any of the newer, more expensive models.

The 8 is still part of the current range and comes with an adapter for headphone with the 3mm jack so the old "lack of headphone socket" argument is somewhat redundant.

Could you not offer to pay a bit more and receive a newer model. Surely much better than being fobbed off with an I phone 7 that may have had 2 previous users who will have drained the battery watching dubious videos on You Tube and X Hamster.
Probably not so get the I phone 8 just because its a bit newer

Having seen the way the majority of people at my work treat their work mobiles (and their company cars for that matter) I would go for the brand new one every time.

It's almost a badge of honor to brag about how ruined your company mobile is and how it is held together with sticky tape.

I got a hand me down phone and number after someone left. I quite enjoyed all the text messages and pictures from their friends ...

Well that's just witchcraft. Clearly too complicated for anyone to understand the concept!

(My iPhone X came with one in the box, I assume they all do)
