Has anyone had any dealings with these sites recently and has their reputation got any better?

I am debating whether or not to use one of these sites to sell my iPhone X (255gb unlocked) as the prices they are offering are far more than Apple, £455 Mazuma to £310 Apple.

I would appreciate the feedback.

Cheers

Matt.

I sent them a Galaxy S9 about a year ago. I cant remember the exact amounts offered, but the initial bid was decent, lets say £280.00.

When it arrived with them I was emailed to say the screen had screen burn and they dropped their offer to £60.00. This was nonsense and the screen was absolutely fine. The phone was only about 9 months old. Several of my friends looked at the phone too and could see no damage.

I asked for it back and, to be fair, it was returned within a few days.

Could be a one off, but I would make a note of the IMEI number!

Thanks thumbup This is the sort of thing I was concerned about. I know that the price they are quoting is probably too good to be true and to be frank I don’t really want to be going through the hassle of being lowballed and then going through the rigmarole of getting it back.

Have you tried CEX? They have shops in most towns and I have always got a decent price for my phones. Plus you don't need to send it away. They check it over there and then and give you the money.

Had exactly the same with O2 Recycle. Offered a decent price for the phone (£100), sent it off and then got an email saying there was screen burn in and was water damaged - offer revised to £10.

Asked for it back and it arrived back a few days later. Screen absolutely fine (as I knew it was) and it had never been anywhere near water (although I know these moisture sensors can be set off quite easily).

Handed the phone down to a family member and it's still working a treat today.

Will think twice before using one of these places again.

Used music magpie a few times, generally good, always had what they said for trade in’s, apart from one I didn’t know what network, so got £40 for ‘unknown’, they emailed saying Vodafone, offered £36. Bizarre!

Music Magpie, especially if you can utilise one of their booster codes (ADD10 worked a few days ago).

Got £748 for my XS Max, 256GB.

I've used Music Magpie recently with mixed results.

A couple went straight through, whilst two others had the offer reduced by more than half due to 'deep scratches'. There were no deep scratches, as I was able to confirm when they sent the items back to me a few days later.

It seems quite random. In the end it cost me two weeks of wasted time (but very little hassle). The only issue in your case with a newer device might be that two weeks costs quite a bit if other offers are going down once the 11 is actually released.

I sent my phone to Music Magpie recently after receiving a decent offer,

After they received my phone they reduced the offer massively due to “deep scratching” the phone was almost perfect with no deep scratches, in fact it was in better condition than the phone I previously bought from them which was sold to me as “Refurbished Pristine”

In the end I have left my phone in a drawer to gather dust and at least it can be a spare for parents etc, I can’t be bothered to try and sell it on Ebay / Gumtree and deal with all the Swopz mezageez or will u take £1 cash etc or letting me know that there is a newer higher capacity model for sale closer to them so they will take it off my hands if I give them £1 (Cash)

Appreciate all the responses, it’s looking like a complete minefield at the moment.

I know it gets flack on here but I’ve happily used local Facebook groups. Person turns up and hands over cash. Worcester ones for electrics have thousands of members, just set price and wait for a reply.

‘game’ used to be one of the better ones as they’d price match any other trade in prices and could get cash, but looks like they’ve stopped that.

last time round i just sold the old phone(s) on gumtree. usually pretty straight forward and always paid cash.

Just a quick reply, I used Mazuma in the end. I sent the phone off yesterday and have just had the money put into my account a few minutes ago.

Just had a look on there for my Pixel XL 2 64gb, £110. Think I will sell it to my mum for £100 put that towards the Pixel XL 4.

I've used Mazuma for about 10 phones, every single one was paid without hassle on the same they received them,

I used music magpie twice and each time I had aggro, but was always sorted out over the phone.
