I have an old laptop running windows 7 that really even struggles to use chrome without a bit of lag. It has very little installed on it, MS office, a program for my car, Chrome and an AV. I've upgraded it as far as it can go (SSD and RAM at max capacity). Upstairs though I have a really powerful PC.

I was wondering if there are any good apps/services/programs that I can remote to my desktop upstairs and effectively just use the laptop as a Keyboard, Mouse and Monitor extender over the network to make it a lot faster (as the desktop will be doing all the donkey work)? The Desktop is windows 10 and connected to the router via Ethernet so very strong network connection there. The laptop is only on the 2.4 Ghz wifi but gets a very strong signal. Happy to get a 5 Ghz dongle for the laptop if this idea would work.

Laptop specs:
AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile TL-60 (2.0GHz, 1MB Level 2 Cache)
4GB RAM – DDR2 (667 MHz)
ATI Radeon X1200 GPU

Thanks

Yes - that idea will work fine.

If you have Windows 10 pro, then just use RDP (windows program).

If your desktop doesn't have Windows 10 pro, try a VNC variant (either tightvnc or tigervnc are ok).

Pretty sure it's Windows 10 pro. Is there any issues between win 7 and 10 or is it fairly straight forward?

Nope, no issues.
