Any restrictions etc for using a hotspot for general internet surfing etc ?

Depends what restrictions are 1) applied to your account / SIM card and 2) applied by Vodafone servers.

I've never had any issue using my phone as a hotspot whilst with vodafone; assuming you're on a pay-monthly plan vs payg. The days of charging for acting as a hotspot are well past - it's just like using your data via your handset.
