This is here in the hope that somebody can help me with a problem that's now been driving me nuts for hours.

I need to format the micro SD card that lives in my reverse camera/mirror device. This is so I can update the firmware
after having forced the device the back up the existing firmware to the card.

Having hoiked the card out of the device, I stuck it in a card reader and plugged it in to my laptop (WIn 10).
I could explore the card and run the videos on it but if I try a formatting from File Explorer I get, 'The card is write protected..every fekkin' time.

Apart from this method, these don't work.

Format card in mirror device. It says OK but nothing actually changes on the laptop.
Diskpart says, 'success' but the error message still appears.
Putting a new DWORD command called WriteProtect in the registry and setting the value to zero in Edit aso did Feck all.
EaseUs Partition Mater 13.5 and Tool M report success but the error message remains.

WHat I can't fathom is that surface checks declare the card as all normal. Ergo, the protect lock on the SD
card reader must be functioning...or is it?

Grrrrrrrrrr

Stupid question... Have you tried a different MicroSD card, or a different adapter, or even a different laptop? That'd eliminate the card, adapter and/or laptop?

https://www.easeus.com/partition-master/how-to-for...

This page leads to an app that u can download to do it for u.

I have no personal experience but just googled and looked around after reading your question.

Alternatively, just buy another SD card from Amazon of a size that u need.

Good luck

Does the card reader have a "write-protect" slider on it?

I had a similar issue where the slider would move when inserting the card into my laptop, took a while to realise what was happening.

In my limited experience of dashcams they have a Format function somewhere in the menu. I know it's a right faff trying to deal with these things in situ which is why I leave mine on GMT rather than bother with the twice yearly hour change.

This generally means that the card is fecked and the firmware has put its self into read only mode so you don’t chuck any more data away.
