During the week my mum has visiting carers throughout the day to help support. She unfortunately has Alzheimers. We're convinced something's not quite right with one of the carers - mum become inexplicably tearful and upset, to the point of running out of the house, after some of the visits by one particular carer. Of course, we've asked this carer is no longer sent. But this isn't the first time. Despite her condition, my mum is still extremely emotionally aware and reactive to those who treat her well or otherwise, and still understands the difference between right and wrong even if it can't be articulated.

Anyhow, we're now looking to get some covert cameras in the home. I'm hopeless with technology and don't know what's the best solution. There's achingly slow and unreliable Orange broadband in the house but probably can't rely on this being a means to transmit images etc.

Ideally the ability to live view and even get audio too would be what we're looking for. As well as the ability to record at maybe set times.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks.

It’s saddening, and I feel for you as we had a similar situation.
I bought an Arlo setup to do just that. It worked well enough to dissuade if not catch anyone.
Hope it all works out ok for you and your family

I wouldn't be after covert. With my wifes gran we had similar and went for all out visible cameras for the full deterrent rather than have a wrongun caught but her in a worse state mentally and/or physically (esp as it was care in her own home where she should be safest)

Thanks for the help.

The mobile network (4G requirement is what I'd need I'm guessing) is network dependent but I think 02's OK.

Still trying to get my head around the Arlo set up which doesn't need wi-fi. Which mobile network does it run off?

It sounds as though I'd just need my laptop and the router it comes with to do the initial set up and after that it's standalone.

My partner works in care and will speak with her and reply further if I can over any other course of action.

However, from chats I have had with her before, covert is not the way to go - opens up a whole can of worms re privacy etc, remember that any camera will only see part of a story and any snippet can easily be taken from context, audio and visual. You could quite easily see a video clip of something untoward, raise it with the company or social services and find out that its out of context and has no relevance. You have then, by that point risked the care company handing back the package and shown your hand.

If you must get cameras, get obvious ones but under the guise that they are there to monitor your mum and not the staff and I imagine it wouldn't be beyond the realms of reasonableness with her condition that one would do that. Before the install though, speak to the care manager to advise them of your intentions - firstly, they may advise it breaches their T&C's of their contract with the council or at least gives them a chance to advise their staff

ETA1 - remember that your mum's home is the carers work place..... may have relevance over the placing and notification of them.

Thanks.

Against the advice given the family have opted to go for hidden cameras and the care company haven't been given the heads up. Will see what comes.

Hmmm....not sure if any of “the family” are legal experts, but I think that is a mistake.
I believe Tomo1971’s response makes much more sense, unless you NEVER plan to reveal any “bad findings” to the company.
