so I have today purchased a A40, I had the flasher A50 but took it back as a little on big side.

I’m trying to get away of apple as to be frank I’ve had enough, anyway that’s a different debait.

So I have some questions can you help.

1. Music, I did use Apple Music, although I didn’t have all my stuff from years ago. I’m goig to start again and don’t fancy a monthly subscription. It’s just not me. What should I use ? Seems to be loads of possibilities

2. I am registered to all the google stuff via a google email acco7nt I had. Does this mean my stuff is saved on Google’s. Erosion of i cloud? Do I pay for this ?

3. I have noticed a google drive I, not signed into and a Samsung cloud drive I’m not signed into what are they what do I need

4. I had a apple find my friends thing on old phone, does this have one

5. What google photos as o have that as well as gallery

6. I have a galaxy store and play store again what’s going on

Running this through a Stella translation service smile

Music:
Non-subscription, dig out all your old MP3 files and put them on the device.

Google storage: Yup, you get mail, calendar, contacts, drive and photos. Not chargeable unless you want more space.

Drive is cloud storage. Sign in with the account you used to set up the phone. Ignore Samsung stuff, unless you find the offer compelling. It mostly isn't.

Google Maps has a location sharing function, but it relies on all your mates sharing there as well.

Google photos backs up every shot to the Cloud, so if you made a booboo and bought a cheap android, you can delete the device copies and save space.

Use the play store. Samsung app store is something the market decided it could quite easily live without. Microsoft got the message, Samsung are taking longer.

Hope this helps.

Basically Samsungs come preinstalled with their versions of Google services as well. So you will probably have Samsung calendar and Google calendar etc.

As others have said, ignore the Samsung stuff - you don't need a Samsung account.

Use the Google apps and make sure you select the back up options. Then if you need to, you will be able to recover your account back to a device.

I remember borrowing the ex-s old S6 a few years ago inbetween my Nexus 6P and Pixel XL 2, think I spent about 2 hours uninstalling Samsung stuff and disabling it.

Google account includes google music.
Free
And you can have up to 50 000 tracks on that free account.
It's so overlooked by people. I use it for the Google assistants on my LG THinqwk7/ Sony / Google Home devices
Admittedly I had to upload the tracks on a PC from my library via the Google music uploader
But its genuinely very very good

I use the Samsung apps .. simple things like having an "unread emails notification counter badge" on the GMail app isn't available. Use Outlook for work emails.

https://forums.androidcentral.com/ask-question/818...

I used "doubleTwist" for music, as it hooks into iTunes. but now I've binned that off as well, it's not really needed. And when in CarPlay it's hard to play an Album.

"Galaxy Store" is still needed for some Samsung apps (Watches, VR etc.)

In the apps menu, go into the individual apps if it allows you to uninstall then uninstall it, if not disable it.

Eventually I got her S6 running Pixel launcher and as many Samsung apps disabled/uninstalled as possible.

I did not know that.
My phone's got enough storage space that I've just copied all my music on to it and use Googles Play Music to listen to it, but putting it all somewhere I can access from other devices would be useful.

I was going to take a screenshot of the page but it would reveal a private e mail address
Anyway copied and pasted from that page in settings:

Account type: Google Play Music Free
Uploaded songs: 19,044 of 50,000

I uploaded pretty much all of the greatest hits stuff I have but I have a large library of music and I could easily start uploading whole libraries of some artists
My 12 yo has her own google account and she has all her music in it and can play it via her LG Google assistant speaker. You miss some functionality and you have to sometimes ask it to play x from my google music with some artists rather than just play x but it works great for her and she also uses it on her phone when at her friends and bluetooths it to her speaker etc.
It's a genuinely overlooked music source.

One comment going the other way - use samsungs clock and alarm, not the google version. The google clock did not play well on my S9 and alarms several times failed to go off.

Never had an issue once I got the hint and used the samsung clock.

Apart from that, there's usually some small additional functionality in the samsung apps specific to the phone - edge alerts that light up the outside of the display, and so on. Google can't alert in the same way. No great loss - I didn't miss this.

Aside from the clock, I used only google apps.

Then bought a pixel3.

Google Play music is being replaced by YouTube music (don't know quite when). YT music does not have the same facility (yet) so I'm not sure what's going to happen to all those uploads. Mine included

Yeah I wish they wouldn't do that, especially when you cannot delete some of them.

Yeh little worried about this because I don't subscribe to any kind of service, I have my own music on Google Play. They better transfer it over.

Find a phone app called "Watchland", when combined with the Gear app allows you to swap watch faces realy easily.

Download the google play music software for the pc and let it scan all your music.

Once it's done that all your music will be available to stream for free from any device with google play music. Playlists etc are synced.
