Discussion
can be modified Is so good it allows any finger to unlock a phone by simply adding a screen protector.

Nearly as good a Huawei's face Id

My favourite example of this mad approach put into real-world practice is Android's facial recognition, which eventually found its way into my smartphone handset this year. I haven't seen the official specification that the Android developers were asked to work on but I assume it must have said: "Create a half-arsed piece of crap with as little effort as possible in order to please our stupider Huawei customers."
Unlike Apple's Face ID, the facial recognition security on my phone works if I wave an enlarged passport photo in front of the camera, and that photo doesn't even have to be of me. In fact, I thought I'd have some fun trying photos of various famous people through the history of British entertainment to see if the software still thought it recognised yours truly. This went flatteringly well at first (Daniel Craig) but I lost interest when it started getting stupid (Norman Wisdom).

Not what I wanted to read, surely would be better off as an eye scanner than a face scanner. RizzoTheRat said:
Bloody stupid place to put a fingerprint scanner anyway isn't it? Mine's on the power button which makes far more sense to me..
Swings and roundabouts. Under the screen makes it easy to unlock with an index finger when the phone is on a table, you can't do that with a rear mounted one and it isn't as easy with a power button one IMO.JimbobVFR said:
Just for balance. You can't just add a crappy screen protector and unlock the phone. The issue comes about when you train your device with your fingerprint while the screen protector is installed.
No, that's exactly what it's claimed you can do. Here's a video demonstrating:

I cannot reproduce the problem on my S10 though.

Well, this innovation makes it even easier to unlock with an index finger when the phone is on a table. Any index finger. lol.All this progress and I think I'll be going back to just using a PIN... I've stated in the Google thread that I'm not 100% happy with the complete removal of the fingerprint scanner and I have misgivings about face unlock as a security proposition. Seems ludicrous not to make it a requirement that eyes should be open for it to work - who would want to unlock their phone in their sleep....?
Daft.
Daft.

Everything I've read on the issue says the opposite. Here's a video demonstrating:

I wonder if the guy in the video already had a different fingerprint stored in the phone that was previously taught while the silicone protector was in place.
So basically it's the media and other companies overreacting because they have grasped the wrong end of the stick. My banking app now warns me against unlocking my phone with my finger. They have failed to understand it's only a problem if you scanned your finger in the first place with a screen protector in place.

No he didn't, if you know the phone you will see that the menu shows no other fingerprints.https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_issues_statement_...

Like I said, I cannot reproduce the issue though and I've tried with various old covers, screen protectors etc I had in the man drawer.
