Debian Techies , a little information please
Discussion
Have now been using Debian for over 1 year rather than Debian 1 day and perhaps Windows the next
Do you techies install Debian and use it as is or update it from time to time as security fixes are released
Should you update Debian, 2 questions
How does one know when security fixes have been released?
What is the procedure for updating Debian without installing a complete latest version OS?
Something in the back of my mind is telling me that the OS was overwritten in the past due to pilot error, I'm not sure about this but seem to recall big files being downloaded for Libre Office amongst other things
About to clean install the latest stable version yet am dreading breaking it as during the installation its written to a small SSD with swap and home on a big spinner, this part of the installation process never fails to confuse things yet get there in the end but without knowing how (keep clicking drives for partitioning etc using different buttons and going back then try again)
Thinking about the installation brings a 3rd question
Should temp, swap and home all go on a spinner or only swap and home with temp on the SSD?
Thank you in advance

Long term Linux user here and I update my Distro's quite often but they are only for personal use, a lot of enterprise users will stick to long term support versions which are more stable.
Ok, the Debian OS being installed shortly will be the latest stable releaseShould it be left as is?
Thank you
If its for personal use, make sure anything you need is backed up and let it "update" over the top of the previous install. If it doesn't go well or messes up completely they do a clean install and re-install the backup stuff.
I've found most Linux Distro's these days update quite well.

It is for personal use. This is handy to be aware of, as it happens the present OS being used has temp, swap and home all on the SSD due to a novice breaking Debian, needing a quick fix the whole OS was installed to the SSDI've found most Linux Distro's these days update quite well.
What about security updates in the future once partitioning is sorted and the new OS installed?
