There's a software Wiki at the top of this sub-forum. Like most stickies it's there but invisible.

SMPlayer for me, it does everything, when I comment everything I mean everything, that is until someone posts up about what it can't do

Not found anything to beat it @ Linux

Displayfusion.

I originally got it for the multiple monitor wallpaper management, but the window snapping, keep-on-top function, monitor profiles (and recalling associated icon layouts), multiple task bars and more put it at the top of my most useful software list.

Not free but a stone-cold bargain.

Vlc is great.

Also standardnotes for syncing notes between different systems / OS.

Spideroak for encrypted cloud backup at decent price where the cloud company has no access to my stuff.

Last pass for managing logins and passwords for all non financial stuff between devices.

As I mainly use mine for media it would be MakeMKV, Handbrake, dBPowerAmp, Kodi, Emby, and probably other stuff I can't think of right now

For search within Windows 10 I like an app called Everything. It is quick and you can tell it to look for just documents, video, pictures, folders, eve or just everything anywhere on your computer.

For playing locally stored music Musicbee is very good.

Bulk Rename Utility

I import huge volumes of music which will have, invariably, been given unhelpful file names. Such an efficient way of sorting them out.

Fair bit of TV episode stuff too

From the above

Partition master and the HDD cloning software, free and work well

Greenshot is great too for copying onscreen images very simple to use

I use MP3tag for things like this.

On my phone, I find TorquePro invaluable. Lately I seem to be using it frequently to diag issues with colleagues' cars.

Also have software to programme walkie talkies which I use for road trips between cars.

GPS Speedo, Google maps for satnav, and all the home automation stuff. So many to choose from.

EaseUs is my goto for disk management bits and pieces but I couldn't get it to clone an HDD to an SSD the other week. Tried 4 times using 2 different methods. Resorted to using Partition Manager to shrink the HDD to the SSD size (I thought EPM should handle this automatically), then used Macrium Reflect to do the clone, then partition manager to resize the HDD back to full capacity for the end user to use as a backup/spare device.

Another vote for BRU! Fabulously good.

Also...

Notepad++
Wireshark
Mendeley
ImageJ
IrfanView
Pineapple (video encoding)

Can't remember the name now but I did have a nice little program that you could use to re-digitize graphs and things.

Another vote for Notepad++, great program.

I also use AutoHotKey a lot. It is a very powerful keyboard macro utility. There is a great subreddit about it.

Another vote for MusicBee, I switched to this after becoming exasperated at the crap attitude of the so-called 'support' at Jriver - unbelievably snotty and unhelpful, especially for a paid product (and not a cheap one either!).

MusicBee is great.
