Website Hosting - who are people using now
Discussion
I have been with TSOhost for several years, but the quality of support has dropped dramatically and sites seem a little sluggish too. They also said they are dropping their easy-to-use cloud hosting and forcing people onto cPanel - which is proving tricky to use...
Any recommendations out there? Hosting reviews says hostinger or godaddy. But not sure how truthful the recommendation sites are...

That was a couple of years ago and I discovered I was not alone.
For 3 years I used 2020Media https://www.2020media.com/ for a club site I manage. They were faultless. I thought the £80pa charge reasonable but had to get something cheaper.
I had no problems with my site so didn't need their helpdesk, but in the set-up stages they were helpful, and gave clear instructions.
I'm in the process of moving to Krystal Hosting from TSOHost, as the OP mentioned support is going downhill rapidly. PHP failed to do anything over the weekend and it was my site being hacked apparently. All worked again later on without a change from me and no changes detected to any file on the site.
Support from Krystal has been superb with 10 min response times at a weekend, much like TSOHost used to be. It was a close call between Krystal and StablePoint (run by the original owners of TSO and Vida before they sold out). The potential for StablePoint to go the same way as TSO gave Krystal the edge

The recommendation sites are run by the big hosting companies who put themselves at the top. No real information to be found there.I'm currently using fasthosts and bestwebhosting, and both have been giving a good service for a few years now. In the past I found a few that start well and fade away.
Depends how far you want to go, but my websites are ran on Linode as I have full control over it, and their support is really good.
Second to that is Digital Ocean.
Lastly, clients who have s
t websites and want cheap hosting I farm off to OVH. As long as it works it's OK, but their support is shocking. But you get what you pay for.

Been using 1&1/ionos for 4+ years now. No problems with them at all.
I've had stuff on 1and1/ionos for over 15 years now. Have also, over the years, had sites on the various PH 'flavour of the month' boutique brands, but 1and1 has provided the most consistently outstanding service and value for money.Unless I was hosting something utterly bespoke and complex, I simply wouldn't go anywhere else now.

Who did you switch to? I look after a club site, I'm using 1&1 but last year I managed to miss the deadline for switching from our 12-month cheap deal to another 12-month cheap deal, so ended up paying £72 for the year. For what we do with it, it's not really worth that much.droopsnoot said:

I've been with them all but 20 years, sometimes with three sites, and in that time I've had one problem. Although it was down to me, it was something I felt they should have noticed. They agreed and apologised.
I've found them very helpful when I have contacted them. Little delay and accurate response. I'm experienced now of course, but I'm no nerd. I often go a year without contacting them for anything. They send notifications if the server is down for service, but that's about it.
Both my sites are Wordpress at the moment, but in the past I've used various other web authoring software, all without problem. The site's backed up daily, the SSL was free, and done for me. I might go away from WP just for the sake of it. I've been with it for years and its a bit boring now.
I used 2020 Media for the club site because they wanted one based locally (I told them it's the internet, but that passed them by). They were faultless, but twice the price. I've also had dealings with Godaddy when I ran a site for a relative. That was not quite so faultless.
The host is recommended, especially for the price.
Thanks, I'll have a look.
We're thinking about dropping the site and just having a Facebook group, but I don't really like that idea as I know some people have a "thing" about FB. Right now I'm paying £1.20 a month, but only on a special offer, and it'd be nice to get something that's a decent low price for the very small usage we have, and consistent, without having to chase offers every year.

Mention my name/site (writewheel.uk) and I might get a reduction. Then again, probably not. We're thinking about dropping the site and just having a Facebook group, but I don't really like that idea as I know some people have a "thing" about FB.
