Having lost my connection part-way through dowloading the latest version of Firefox it has left a incomplete file on my desktop named 'Firefox Setup 1.0.4.exe'.

I have now dowloaded and installed the latest Firefox updates but it wont let me delete this file from my desktop. the message i get when i try is:

Cannot delete 'Firefox Setup 1.0.4.exe' it is being used by another program.
Close any programs that might be using the file and try again.

Any ideas?
Its XP Pro BTW.

press ctrl-alt-del and make sure nothing is running

otherwise reboot and you'll be fine to delete

There is nothing running in the applications list and i have rebooted the machine a couple of times .... still to no avail.

the file size reports to be 0kb and with my messing about with the file i have managed to copy it and now have 3 of them in various locations none of which will delete!

Get hold of "WhoLockMe" it's a little Windows program that can help you identify the process locking a file.

Sorted now thanks guys,

For future reference i downloaded a utility called 'move on boot' which removed them for me.

I did try 'who locked me' but it said the file was locked by explorer(x6 times) and would let me kill the processes.

Cheers,

Alan.
