I have a jumble of icons on my desktop - it's basically just a scratchpad. It gets backed up by Deja daily.

I launch apps, services, and frequently used files via keyboard shortcuts 99% of the time and hate clutter, hence the minimalist clutter-free layout.

I hate background images, it makes it hard to see what objects on the desktop are.
