Can this be done?

At the moment if I google a location on the google app, I often get the headline info at the top - hours, address etc and I can click on the map.

Frustratingly iOS then opens Apple maps.

Which would be ok, if a little annoying, if the Apple maps actually showed the location I was searching for but it doesn’t it just shows me my location.

This drives me to distraction several times a day.

Am I being stupid? Is there a simple way to make it all play nicely with each other?

I can’t say about the google app but within gmail you can change which browser it will open links in, have a look in the google app settings?

Certainly if you google a location in Safari and tap the map it opens in google maps so I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to do the same with the google app.

What are you using? I have an iPhone and iPad and I’ve just deleted the Apple maps app!

I tried this, but it just tells me the action I am taking requires ‘maps’ and gives me an option to open it in the App Store.

It is so irritating.

I had looked in settings but I have just looked again and it is there! There are settings for default apps.

This has made my day. Indeed it has, so far, made my month.

Marvellous.

In Settings within the Google app - not in iPhone settings.

You’re using the google app?

More - settings - general - default apps

It’s not obvious.

Bit strange that it’s a google setting that doesn’t work properly with the default option of Apple maps.

On my iPad, I just deleted the Apple Maps App and now everything defaults to Google Maps.
