Ok, got a new laptop a few months ago (Vaio VGN-FS195XP) - great laptop BUT it has a C drive and a D drive. The C drive is only 15GB which is now nearly full (got 100MB left) but the D drive is 65GB and got tons of room left.

Question is how do I resize the partition??

Whatever you do don't visit a site such as http://kickme.to/fosi (actually dont in the office, trust me).
When you are not there, dont find a program such as Partition Magic or Commander or somesuch and download it.

That obviously wont help at all......

Or if most of the space is taken up with stuff in 'My Documents' or other data type stuff, just move it on to the D Drive.

To move My Docs and its subfolders such as My Music and My Pictures to the D drive, click Start then right click on My Documents and select properties.

In the 'Target Folder Location' box, change C: to D: click OK and there you are.

No it's mostly program files like windows, office, adobe suite plus other stuff I need. If I use Partition Magic and similar is there any danger of losing files while I resize?

There's always the danger of losing data, which is why PM and similar tools will advise you to back up before starting to fiddle.

IME Partition Magic has never missed a beat, but that doesn't rule out a power cut or suchlike.

If you're worried about it, back it up.

I was recommended to use Partition Expert when my 5Gb C Drive sarted groaning, and it worked prefectly. Easy to use as well.

I fitted a second hard drive so now have the original 40Gb one for C, and the new 80Gb one for D, which will keep me going for a good while.

Am I missing something here, just put the new information on D.

I run 2 drive split into 3 partitions
C for windows and games
D for Vital documents, pictures etc
E for download, films etc

Only C gets wiped on a reformat and Docs are relatively safe.
