As the thread title says - pros and cons of going wireless. I've had cable internet since forever. I'm currently running one of the Virgin Media 100mb+ options which costs nearly £50/month. We're a relatively data heavy house, with lots of video streaming and gaming. A quick squizz on Google suggests a Vodafone 5G sim will give me at least that speed with unlimited data. I'm in London although not in a 5G area yet so this is doing some research for the future.

Thoughts?

I think Vodafone 5G unlimited data packages still have a speed cap 2Mbps or 10Mbps

Three might be more suitable for your needs , though i suspect others will follow soon.

If you can, try before you buy, to get some real world results. Not everyone will get the same experience the PR companies will tell you.
At least with Virgin you know you are getting what you pay for.

Just remember that 5G, even if it’s in your area, it might not penetrate your walls, and might not even make it to your house if blocked by buildings etc.

5G indoors will need a basestation type of thing probably with an outside aerial.

Thanks, I will as soon as my area has 5g, it's an easy tether for all bar one device.

I reckon a call to Virgin is required.
My 200mbps is £31.74

I agree, unless that £50 odd a month also includes line rental and a TV package. Virgin are now doing 500Mb.

I'm not sure how quickly 5g will roll out.
i seem to remember 4g being pretty quick, going from fairly niche to broadly available within 3 years.

They seem to have jumped the gun a bit with 5g, handsets are barely available, standards are still being worked out. I think 5g home broadband with be great for anyone who can get it, but most people could be in for a long wait.

You are correct ! .. however everywhere i click behind that price is still referring to 10Mbps ( so fastest available isn't the same as "as fast as it can go " )

That said ... i've seen over 600Mbps over 5G ( though that was on n78 with 70Mhz and no one else on the sector )

Indeed. I'm paying £23.50/mth for 100Mb. Was paying £25 but that deal ended so I cancelled as I "could get a better deal elsewhere". A week later they rang me and offered £23.50 right off the bat (with a new 12 month contract though).
