Configuration of local and cloud storage
Discussion
I have a new laptop and don't want to clog up local storage space with photos and videos.
Ideally, I'd like to set it up to do the following:
1. import photos/video from camera
2. store locally in the first instance while simultaneously uploading to cloud storage
3. delete local copies automatically after a week or so, retaining the cloud copies only
Is this possible... or will I have to delete the local copies manually?
Any advice gratefully received.

OneDrive does a really good job of this - you see everything in Windows Explorer, but some of it might be just in the cloud (but it downloads it on the fly when you go to open it), some of it on your device too. You can set certain files or folders to always be on your device if you're likely to need them offline.

That's what I do now. Everything is thrown either into OneDrive or Dropbox, but I only keep certain folders actually on my local drive.https://support.office.com/en-gb/article/save-disk...
(OMG data security! What if we go to war with the USA and they don't give me my data back OMG!!!111!!!!!1....I'll take my chances.)

Interesting... I'll have a look at OneDrive. I think you get 1TB free with a Office 365 subscription so that should be plenty.https://support.office.com/en-gb/article/save-disk...

That's exactly why the Western Digital MyCloud was my storage of choice for important stuff. Well, maybe not the war bit, but rather than trust Microsoft or Google etc not to lose it, I have a secure drive hidden away at home connected to my wifi so I can still access anything from anywhere on the mobile or any desktop. I used to have my security footage routed there too in case we were burgled but my new Blink system doesn't seem to give the option

War with the US isn't the concern. (OMG data security! What if we go to war with the USA and they don't give me my data back OMG!!!111!!!!!1....I'll take my chances.)
Slack data policy/systems management for what is a much bigger target is the real concern.
Everything has its place an uses, and as back up or for genuinely non-important stuff cheap cloud services are fine.
But for important things, ensure you have full control.
And think very carefully about what you class as important. Often people only do this when it's too late
