I have been toying with the idea of upgrading my mediocre laptop to a SSD, thought I would hold off to see if Crucial were going to do any Black Friday deals. Just checked on there and the drop down menu no longer lists Toshiba devices! I know they did a few weeks ago or fairly sure they did. Can't believe they don't do Toshiba upgrades, it's a pretty popular make, any ideas why they have dropped them?

Also any other suitable suppliers other than Crucial?

Won't any make of SSD be compatible?

Dunno confused

They have a "compatibility" guarantee and you can check if a particular SSD is compatible so I assumed that not all SSD are equal.

I personally like the Samsung SSD's
Generally you can use any SSD but you need to physically check the size - some only have enough clearance for a 7mm type.
Some are mSata types

Unless you machine has a whitelist you should be able to try any

Whether a 'standard' 2.5" SSD will fit, depends on the age of your laptop.

If your laptop is quite old, it could have an 2.5" IDE drive (44 pin connection).

Most SSDs sold today, have SATA connections.

Chances are, your laptop has SATA connections (unless it is old), but it would be wise to check before you order anything. If you do an Internet search on 'IDE drive connection' and then another search on 'SATA connection', if you then remove the hard drive, it will be immediately apparent which type you have.

If the hard drive has a SATA connection, you should be able to fit any SATA SSD (from any manufacturer & of any capacity).

Cheers for that. It's not that old and I think when I checked on Crucial it was showing SATA type connections. I will check before doing anything.

No, that's where I was checking, they listed Toshiba a few weeks ago, now nothing. Really strange.

Samsung 1TB Evo SSD down to £94 today on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-MZ-76E1T0B-EU-Sol...

That's the lowest I've seen them for a very long time so a genuine reduction.
