Very sadly, the administrator of the Facebook group for the race series I’m involved with passed away recently.

Is there any way we (race committee) can ‘gain control’ of the admin side of the group without knowing his username or password? I do t want to ask his widow, as a) she almost certainly won’t know login details and b) it would be cruel to ask this close to his passing.

Help would be appreciated.

I wouldn't have thought so. You would need access to his PC or phone to log in and hand over ownership.

Perhaps worth enquiring with Facebook as globally it must be a reasonably common issue.

This - don't you dare go near his widow.

facebook will be able to sort this out and moving forward have more than one person as an admin with full admin rights so that you are not caught out again.

You wont get his facebook details as that would give you access to his facebook as these accounts are generally linked.

best of luck

Thanks for all the advice guys. For the avoidance of doubt, no way would I even think of approaching his widow.
