Sorry for the dull and hopeless thread, I remember reading one a couple of months ago here which had some good sites mentioned in it, but can't find it now.
It's time to replace my ageing S5 with something newer (not the latest) and wondered if you knew where the best deals were to be had. I bought it reasonably cheaply from some European site years ago now, so long I can't remember where!

I was looking for similar last week, I think the sweet-spot for features vs money is to buy the latest but one Samsung and run it on a sim-only contract. Wanted an S9 for my wife on O2, unlimited calls, texts and 5Gb of data was £15 a month and I found new on eBay for about £350 for the phone.

I ended up getting it on a contract, mobilephones direct have it at £24 a month, which once you've taken out £15 a month out for the sim only contract, gets you down to £9 a month or a little over £260 for the phone. Doubt you'll beat that for money vs features.

Pardon my ignorance, but can you not purchase directly from Samsung?

I have no idea.

This is exactly what i've been doing for a few years now. I'm not bothered if it's the latest, as long as it does the basics and as cheap as poss. The last model is usually about 50% of the current one.

Yes you can and often they’ll give you a decent trading on your old Samsung for a new one.

I got my S8+ sim free from Carphone wehouse, on their "good as new" scheme. Didn't come in a branded box, but I honestly couldn't tell it apart from a new one. Presumably a returned order from someone who'd opened it and gone "fk, it's huge" and sent it straight back. Was something like £550 rather than £799

Take a look at Huawei, better than Samsung and a lot cheaper take a look at a P Smart which is more capable than an S5 for £150-£165 (on offer).

Amazon is as good as anywhere unless you are travelling. I’ve had real bargains on phones in Middle East and HK.

Last week I got a Samsung A70 direct from Samsung, £329 with £100 trade in on an old phone that was lying around. It's got 128gb of storage, 6gb memory and a fantastic screen. Only a week in, but a significant step up from my previous Nokia 6.1 which cost me £200 18 months ago. Also got about £7 for going via Quidco.

I’ve gotten a couple of phones from cex. Grade A and they are perfect. To be graded A they can’t have any marks at all and all new accessories with the box etc and also get a 2 year warranty. The one I’ve recently bought was an iPhone XS and on checking was literally 2days old.

I stick with Samsung as it's just easy, i'm not technically minded when it comes to phones, so the familiarity suits me.
The cash back with old phones sounds handy, especially as I have two or three kicking about there somewhere tongue out
