I’ve been gifted an unused 13” MacBook Pro 2012 and surprisingly it runs very well with good battery life (as it was unused).

The only thing I’ve noticed is it takes longer than I’d like to start up and when opening an app but once running no issues. I only ever use a laptop for photo and video editing (photoshop and GoPro footage).

So I’ve seen crucial dining a reasonably priced SSD and they do 16gb of ram is that likely to improve the performance of the machine by much or is it not worth investing a £100 in a 7 year old machine?

I've got a late-2011 13" MBP, which I've upgraded with a 500GB SSD & 16GB RAM.

Well worth the money, completely new lease of life for it.

I run a 2012 with 16GB and an SSD. I would say definitely worth it. The standard HDDs are slow.

SSD upgrade is essential. I did my mid-2010 model and it rejuvenated it. The last shape MacBooks with decent connectivity!

there are great tutorials on Youtube.

Same - although I think mine is 2011. Zips along nicely with the SSD.
