any solutions for a wireless intercom system, I keep looking at google minis and echo's but they only seem to do broadcasts, which is one solution when telling everyone dinner is ready, but when two people want to have a conversation neither seem to offer that.

I'm almost thinking of buying a 3-4 dect phone handset system, as they do this, but there clunky and a bit old skool.

To me if the mini's or echos did this it would be a "killer" app and these have other obvious benefits of performing a whole host of other functions aswell.

Any other solutions out there ?

Does the Echo Drop In feature not do what you want? You can speak to individual devices (people) not just all at once.

In our previous house the office was above the kitchen, but a long walk away.

We fitted this type of thing - hard wired with bell wire, but did the job perfectly as the 'called' end did not have to press any buttons and could just talk to their unit until the caller took their finger off the button. Much handier than a system that needs 'answering'.

Echo drop-in feature works a treat - I drop into my kitchen from the pub shed at the bottom of the garden to send some snacks up......

In addition to Drop In, there is also Alexa/Echo calling.

Drop In doesn't require someone to accept the call at the receiving end, so essentially you can simple listen in and speak to (or frighten the feck out of) someone in that room.

With Alexa calling, you initiate a call with "Alexa Call Kitchen", and the Kitchen device will ring, and someone has to answer the call.

Alexa Calling can make calls to your contact's devices, home phones, mobile phones etc as well - won't make international calls BTW.

No they don't.

I would sit on my hands and wait though as I suspect they'll get it eventually.

It would be really handy to be able to patch into the Kitchen from my workshop when I'm outside and I have cabling there that would let me run an intercom, but I'm sure the Google kit that's already in both will do it eventually.

as this is around the house PMR handsets would be just as good as adding dect handsets. But thanks for the double suggestion.

I'll look into Alexa drop... thanks

I suggested it twice because it got ignored the first time smile, but it's what we use.

They work in the garden and the local area as well as in the house, so you can just keep one in your pocket or whatever. Much more flexible than dect handsets.

First suggestion, dect phones work perfectly for this.

The added bonus is you are never more than a few strides away from answering a call from a cold caller! You may scoff at that but it is a big time saver.

Yes it does. Ask your device to broadcast, it'll.then ask what you want to broadcast to the other device/s and send it.

Did you read the OP's post? The bit where he explains why Broadcast isn't Intercom?

And both the Alexa and Google devices can be structured into zones / homes to do what’s required

As per earlier post, Alexa does more than Drop In

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display....

We use Alexa calling to do exactly what you want in your OP.

but the broadcast destination cannot be specified. It's to all devices in the home.
