Been meaning to look into this - thanks, looks ideal. How do I know if my laptop has the right sound card / facility for headset? It's the latest Dell Latitude X300. It has microphone and headphone sockets, so I just need to buy a headset...right?

Yes, just the headset. I paid £20 for one from PC World and it works a treat. Just spoke to a friend of mine in the States for free. Well impressed

If your connection keeps cutting out you need to install X-Lite as well. I am now running this on my PC AND my IPAQ

Currently using Skype which I am well chuffed with. Personally I would be careful of stuff for free - telecoms cost money so chances are there will be a few corners cut.

With skype I dont have dropped calls or poor quality. But then its 1.2 euros a minute to a land line. Works well and can recommend it. The company I work for uses it pretty heavily too - cant even start to think about the money it saves...!!!

Voip is the future though...

I think you've got the pricing wrong there - to a whole load of destinations it's 1.7 Euro CENTS (about 1p/min).
