Your 20's tech predictions?
Discussion
For a bit of new year/new decade fun, what are your predictions of how technology will change over the next decade? Will be interesting to see how many predictions come true.
Here are two from me.
5G/4G will become the dominant way we consume internet/broadband, many will give up landlines altogether as wireless connections become mainstream.
Headphone implants. You'll be able to have your 'Earpods' implanted behind your ear, they will charge wirelessly, say from a pad under your pillow whilst you sleep.

I think that nano-technology and implants will become more mainstream both for corrective surgery and entertainment. I personally would love to work for https://www.neuralink.com as I think Musk will push the technology.

I'm already a cyborg having a defib pacemaker and it aint nice. Quite why some are excited to voluntarily become cyborgs is baffling.
I think this decade is going to be about control as "gubberments" cannot have the plebs doing what they want or at least taxing them for doing so. As such I think there will be a backlash where many will "unplug" and embrace dumb tech whether it be their car, fridge or toaster!

true holographic 3d displays, the technology is nearly there and ready for domestic use

It would be nice to come out of the 20s with 100% UK 3G coverage to be honest.megaphone said:

Drones bloody everywhere doing everything! And hopefully new tech which makes them a lot quieter. You can't hear them on yourtube for the trip hop but they drive me and the mutt nuts.
What do you see drones doing that they're not doing now? thebraketester said:

What do you see drones doing that they're not doing now? I think we'll be seeing autonomous cars and services and reduced car ownership by the end of the decade. With most car technology it takes 5 years to trickle to the mainstream models, and then 10 years for these to be the majority in the used market. But as a service, I think we will see a sudden / fast uptake when it starts. Taxi's delivery services, bulk transport etc.
Software and gaming will move to cloud processing, for all but the highest performance requirements.
Touch haptics will become mainstream.

Not so sure 5g will be the panacea people expect but work more off a fibre to a premises such as a stadium or other event and fill in the gaps fibre cannot get to. Behind the scenes stuff but then texting was never a thing until the public went nuts for it.
8k kick off when they get production of the panels down in price. Improved coders to drop bit rates and 4k get more of a foothold.
Flip phones make a come back when they get bored of better camera's and folding phones. Well, I would laugh if it did.
Rollable screen tech to get more a a movement through TV and phones.
Would like to see SSD costs drop a lot.
Fibre to the home numbers increase a huge amount though that should have been happening now.
Autonomous cars and battery cars to pick up some though prices will need to come down.

Have you seen the film Kingsman? Edited by boxst on Thursday 2nd January 09:53

If you think I'm having any thing made by Musk put inside me.
As for 5g there will be more rolled out in the cities but not in rural areas so the tied line broadband will be here for a while yet.
I think 5g will also have to overcome the tin foil hat brigade who seem to be gearing up for a "think of the children" social media campaign where reason will be lost to mass stupidity.
I think free moving robots out and about in society will become a regular sight. Already Boston Dynamics are selling Spot robots, Atlas is a parkour master and costs are dropping all the time for complex electronics.
I think we'll see the social networks scrapped at long last (possibly after being blamed for mass civil unrest).
Small, foldable, 5G handhelds will become mainstream and there'll be daft, tiny ones that unfold to be huge, kind of like phones were going in the early noughties (when folded).
Self driving car technology will be good enough to let loose but not legal to use in places like the UK.
Sometime in the next decade I might finally understand the hi-fi equipment that came with my house.

Amazon deliveries.
I think that's as likely as flying cars - there's some utility in limited circumstances but unless they can get them into garages and to ring flat doorbells it's a bit pie in the sky I think. No pun intended
- More sinister....... Amazon and Google will start becoming political and start altering the way democracy works. These two companies literally have a finger in every pie and control too much of the worlds data. They are more powerful in their ability to influence people than is good for the world. Just look at Amazons advert spend over xmas!!!
- The demise of Facebook/Instagram/Twitter. These three are horrible uses of technology and I think people will start seeing through their limited value to see exactly how nasty they have become.
- The death of e-commerce and fast fashion sites. The rise again of the high-street. How the massively waste-full fast fashion thing came about defeats me.... people are so bored in their lives they have feck-all else to do than buy more s
t and send it back because it's not what they want. People have forgotten how social with friends a trip out shopping can be.
- Battery tech going to a completely new level with the use of graphene and super-capacitors, making lithium look like pre-historic technology
