Lightweight MS Word alternative?

Hi all,

I've got to hate the heavyweight feel to MS Word when actually I just want to bang some thoughts down on screen/paper. I don't need drawing menus, macros, backgrounds, themes or anything else - just an interface that doesn't interrupt the flow of ideas from brain to screen.

I'm downloading Open Office right now, but wondering if you guys had any thoughts on what else to try. I need some basic formatting - bold, italics etc, and maybe even tables, but nothing above and beyond. Alternatively could I guess paste the text into Word when finished.

Admittedly, this is 90% work avoidance and I could just hide all that stuff in Word. But, yeah - any ideas. Thanks.

Try that - Abiword. I've not used it for ages, but it was definitely a lot lighter than OpenOffice...
