Looking for any help/advice. My oldest sons phone crashed Samsun Galaxy S8 and with help from google and insufficient knowledge hes now killed the phone so it will only boot in what seems to be BIOS mode. Im not knowledgeable in this area so please be gentle with me !

Looks like hes wiped the boot loader. He tells me that a full wipe and OS reload may fix it but it will wipe all the data which he wants back (photos mainly i think) . Before he shells out £££ to a data recovery company is there anything he can try himself to get the data back?

Any help much appreciated !

Aren't the photos backed up on Google photos?

We do a certain amount of data recovery and the very first piece of advice, and definitely the most important, is that if you’re not sure what you’re doing stop doing anything at all. Trying to recover data yourself is usually unsuccessful and makes it much harder if not impossible for a professional to do it further down the line.

Secondly, and mods please remove this post if self advertising is not allowed etc but I’m happy to discuss your options if you want to drop me an email via my profile.

What is he actually trying to recover? A phone crashing is unusual plus photos are normally automatically backed up on Android.
Its a dangerous thing people messing with bootloaders when they dont know what they are doing. The files invlolved are so specific to each device.
I assume you arent considering a recovery fee because he has music downloaded on it.

Thanks for the replies , i will check with gim what he has that needs to be recovered then get gim to check how much of it may be backed up online

I told him not to mess with it so dont have a lot if sympathy for his situation.

And tell him to stop messing with his phone. Does he expect you to just buy him a new one?
