Anyone having problems with Firefox? It installed an update 2 or 3 days ago, and since then I have problems with the browser freezing. Its fine when there is activity in the browser, but once the machine is left inactive for a few minutes it goes through a cycle of "not responding" . A reboot seems to be all that can be done to avoid long periods waiting for the browser to respond.
Chrome works fine, so definitely a prob in Firefox itself. Running Win 8.1

Anyone?

I use it as an alternate browser for one of my e bay accounts.
It has generally been fine but I noticed yesterday and this morning it seemed to struggle to open some pages.
Trying to look at pictures of items in particular is slow. Opening up several tabs is variable

I have switched to Opera as the alternate. I hadn't realised Firefox had updated didn't see any reference to it - there usually is.

Can't get it to open on my laptop so moved to Chrome.

Now plagued with Google spying on me all the time.

Edge may actually be the new normal soon.

Brave browser is the answer, its built on Chrome.

I moved from Chrome to Firefox on all my Android, Linux machies, unfortunately my ChromeOS devices aren't capable of installing Linux or Android Apps or else would that as well.

Desktop experience of Firefox was fine but mobile it wouldn't display some sites properly that Chrome would, I then ditched it for Brave and havent looked back.

I switched to Brave for a while and liked it, but recently it just does that "waiting for cache" crap that Chrome does, and no amount of clearing stuff and whatnot seem to get it going again. So I went back to Firefox because it's still the least annoying of them all. Used to use Opera but then they royally fked it with v5 I think where they dropped the bookmarks bar, never used it since.

Thanks all, I'm using 4 extensions within Firefox, an ad blocker, a Duck duck go privay tool , a social media tracking blocker, and a nifty thing called tree style tab. This allows multible tabs to be open, (I think I have around 80 or so) .
Historicall, none of these have been a problem. In fact, some functions of a malware product I use are automatically disabled by the browser as being uncompatible with version 72.0.1 of Firefox, which appears to be the version I'm using.

As said, my problems started when the latest version of FF was installed a few days back, all very puzzling.

Have a look on the Firefox sub on Reddit - searching for r/Firefox on your chosen engine should take you there.
See if any one else is having similar issues - they are super helpful on there, I'd been having an issue with Firefox crashing on me for over 18 months with only 4-5 tabs open, no issues on other browsers, posted some requested logs and they tracked it down to a GPU driver issue despite my PC saying it was up to date, they gave me a link to the latest driver checker, installed latest driver and its been bob on ever since.

Edit - I'm on 72.0.1 with no issues but I never have more than 5-6 tabs open.

Thanks for the pointer regarding Reddit . Not a site I have ever used, so I'll check it out. I have a feeling the prob is going to be something obscure. Hopefully will be able to uncover the prob sooner rather than later.

Chrome with Ghostery and Duck Duck Go extensions installed will stop all the tracking crap. PiHole and a VPN cover the rest off. Then simply don't use Facebook and the like and you're sorted. thumbup

Truth be told, parts of Reddit are absolutely bonkers - but for device/hobbies/personal interest specific stuff it's excellent. Just checked the metrics and there is in excess of 1.8m sub-reddits/sub forums! 1870 new ones yesterday alone. There's honestly something on there for everyone's kink/bent/interest.

ETA - have you tried a refresh on Firefox? It's the first thing they'll ask you to do on the Reddit support - worth taking a note of any changes you might have made first.

I'm having a dig round on reddit, several Firfox related forums, just a matter of picking what seems the best one. I'd checked out the refresh reset , but have near 80 or so tabs open in the tree style tab extension. So when I get chance I'll check I have them saved in my favourites , because when I do refresh, it seems I will lose them all. Currently using Chrome most of the time at the mo, need an ad blocker for it though , all the ads driving me nuts.

This is the main Firefox sub https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/

I moved away from chrome in the summer as there were rumours that they were going to disable adblock addons - I used Adblock plus (I use ublock origin on Firefox but I believe that's been rejected on chrome now?)

Appears the problem is resolved. Was browsing earlier this morning when the browser suddenly refreshed for no apparent reason. So I checked my add-ons which showed that the Tree style tab add on had just updated itself.

All seems fine now,so appears that was the problem.

As for Chrome, I'd not paid it much attention to it until this problem with FF. Historically, I've just used it for a couple of sites. Its been an education to see what a dim view many of the rech community at large hold it in. Many describing it outright as spy ware. As for them not allowing ad blockers, it would not surprise me at all. I'm rapidly falling out of love with google and looking to make duck duck go my default search engine .

This prob has had its silver linings though , I was unaware of the Brave browser prior to this, so intend to investigate its use , never know, may use it instead of chrome.
