I'm just about to extend a Windows 10 system (boot) partition into unallocated space on a laptop.

Is GParted live on a bootable USB the wrong way to go about it?

Is there a reason you can't use the built in Windows utility? From Disk Management, right click the partition you want to enlarge and select 'Extend Volume'

Macrium Reflect Free is very useful for this sort of thing:

There are other partitions lurking between "C" and the unallocated space.

I don't think you will be able to extend into the unallocated space then. You need to shuffle the partitions along to bring the free space next to the C partition. I'm pretty sure you can do this with Macrium.

In that case, then yes, I would use a GParted Live CD to move the partitions.

Thanks. All done successfully. And recovery partition deleted because I have a Windows repair bootable USB stick and an ISO disk image for emergencies.

Easy when you know how laughlaugh
