Hi all,

I have a 365 subscription which includes 1TB of Onedrive which I want to share across my family. However I want to restrict each member of my family to a folder.

So Ive create 4 folders in my One drive, me, son, wife, daughter and I want each person's indvidual onedrive on thier laptop to sync up with the contents of thier particular folder i.e. my wife's local laptop files to sync with her folder, my son's to the son folder and daughter the her folder.

At the moment all I can do is log into each of my family's local one drive, with my account id/password, but that just means the whole 1Tb drive syncs up.with each laptop which I dont want.

Can anyone help / suggest what I need to do ?

You can't do what you are trying to do.

Each person should have their own OneDrive login credentials (so buy them licences) and when they log on they get their own storage which syncs to their device.

If you log in with your account on their devices your whole OneDrive will sync to that device just as you are finding.

An 80 quid office 365 home plan will give you 6 different accounts with 1TB of storage on each account.

As above, if the other users are within your household they could share your subscription.

Alternatively, if they're on Windows10 machines, it comes with OneDrive installed and the free version can be logged into with a Microsoft account (also free). I'm not sure, as we use the Business version, but I would have expected you could then sync shared folders - but it's possible there's a limitation on the home or free versions that doesn't allow this.

Cheers guys.

I have brought the 80 quid subscription, didn't realise I was entitled to have additional accounts aligned to it. I have 4 or 5 devices aligned, all having office installed.

So do I need to declare 3 individual accounts I. E. Mummy@outlooo.com, son@outlook.com, ETc to my account? Do they then get 1tb each?

Yes - then you can share your folder 'Mummy' to (just) the missus and 'Sonny' to (just) junior.

Slightly off topic, but are you able to password protect a OneDrive folder?
As an added layer of security or is it simply the case that if someone gets onto your machine (past the windows password) then they can access everything in OneDrive that’s synced locally?

There is now a folder within onedrive that is called personal vault that has two factor authentication required to open it, this is where you can store any sensitive information, i have mine set up and it sends a txt message to my phone with a pin code to open the folder.

In answer to your question once past windows login anyone can access your folders that are synced to the local hard drive, except the personal vault

Is there a way to only work off of OneDrive? So all my data sits on the OneDrive and nothing is local?

Risky if the internet connection goes down however.

Yes.
This is how I do it. Have some big video files that just sit on the cloud and have the documents folder synced to both hd and cloud.
You can make the changes on one drive of which files you want on cloud.

Solid green tick symbol means they are on both.
