We have two Amazon Firesticks, powering TVs in bedrooms. Over the last couple of weeks they both seem to have deteriorated. Locking up or just no "reception" or buffering all the time. Do they have a lifespan?
Same rooms we have had phones (except my Sony POS), Nexus, lap tops, etc all working wi fi.
Thanks for any advice, would BT Mesh help??

Like most modern tech the more updates the manufacturer releases, the more and more antiquated the old tech becomes. I have a launch edition Firestick and it still runs ok once you have the app up and running, but it takes ages to wake up, load apps, switch back to home screen, and is prone to locking up where the only solution is to pull the power lead out of it to force a restart.

Firesticks like a nice healthy power supply. 1 Amp as a minimum. Anything less and they get glitchy.
Also try a power cycle (you would be surprised how often this helps, and also a complete reset may help

My first one lasted about 3 years then started doing this, factory reset it etc no joy, luckily close to black Friday so replaced it with the newer version which has been fine since.

I've also got the old Fire TV Box downstairs connected to Ethernet and thats been fine.

My first one lasted less than two hours (on it's own power supply). It slowed from working on first boot to taking 3-4 minutes to respond to a remote command within the first 2 hours. This made it impossible to reset etc so Amazon replaced it.
Second one has been OK thus far, but they're undoubtedly built down to a (disposable) budget.

Mine is being problematic too - It goes to sleep and then takes minutes to wake up again. When it does wake up it sometimes takes a while to load the Amazon curated lists of programs and apps I might want to load, which is annoying.

It also drops the connection to the Fire TV app, which I use as a remote control because the kids have dropped the other two down the back of the radiator.

And Casting directly to the device (even from the Amazon Prime App) doesn't work anymore.

It's ste, but it was cheap so can't complain too much.

Your last sentence sums it up I guess.
Four years on from this, is there a better way of getting television to a TV where there is no co ax cable option and the TV is a distance from the bt router. We have a bt extender 1200 half way between the router and the TV but it seems to work when it wants to.... but better than the netgear one I had previously.
Cheers
