I want to test out 4G broadband in my home, any recommendations on modems/routers? I just want to test with an existing SIM. Possible external antenna option. Possible future proof for 5G.

I don't need the routing as I will use my existing set-up, do they do 'modem mode'? Ideally I just need a dynamic IP. Anyone doing this?

Depends on the router - I use a netgear M1 which provides a bridge mode for use with other routers (this is LTE only so doesn’t fulfil your 5G requirement).

I also plug it in without enabling this mode and use it as a backup WAN. You end up double NAT’ing but you’re doing this anyway whenever you use a LTE provider with CGNAT. It’s made no difference to me for typical web / streaming services and avoids any need to reconfigure the router which I sometimes unplug to take away as a portable hotspot.

Thanks will take a look at the Netgear.

An issue I can see is with DDNS, looking on line it appears broadband ISP don't give out public IPs.

DDNS won’t work over LTE. you can’t forward ports to your 4G/5G router.

I use a TP Link Archer MR400. It's steady as a rock. Modem mode only, sending 'tinterweb to my ASUS router through a short ethernet cable.
