Wndows Me Recycle Bin

Hoping someone can help

am trying to fix the recycle bin on a Windows Me computer it no longer works the empty recycle bin has gone from the right-click options and if you select properties i get an error message saying "the properties for this item are not available". If i r-click and select explore it opens explorer pointing to my desktop.

I have so far tried the following:
Delete the C:\Recycle folder and reboot
Created a new desktop.ini file in the recycle folder
Have checked that the HDD isn't set to a removable drive

anyone got any ideas?

I would - unfortunately its not my PC, im fixing it for someone who asked for the Recycle Bin to be fixed however i'm no completely stumped as to whats wrong with it.

Have you got the windows Me install disks?

Re-Installing Windows (you should run the repair option...) shouldn't blitz your friends sensitive issues (e-mail/documents/games/porn videos etc)...

What does the recycle bin actually do - in your case (I know what it's supposed to do!!!)

Will have to dig out an Me disk hope ive still got one.

Basically its a problem with the desktop recycle bin seemingly not linked to the recycle folder in the C: drive.

If i delete a file it goes to the C:Recycle folder but the desktop icon doesnt change and has lost its functionality ie double-click doesnt open the recycle folder and right-click "empty recycle bin" is missing from the drop down menu.
