As per the title, I’m thinking of replacing my iPad Pro and desktop gaming PC that is confined to another room with a gaming laptop and was wondering if anyone has spotted any particularly good deals around at the moment?

Budget would be £1500ish, and as a priority a good quality screen (as in pleasing to look at rather than outright refresh rate) would be essential.

This one looks alright and it seems reasonable VFM as far as I can see. However, I would entertain spending more than that for something appreciably better.

Dave.

Depends on the use, as always.

Laptops are a pain in the arse to use while sat on the sofa compared to a tablet (even moreso on the crapper hehe ).

Combine that with the non-upgradability compared to your current PC, you're going from the best of both worlds to the worst.

Yep I get that, but ultimately its about the amount of use it gets in reality. Because the desktop is in another room, I tend not to end up using it as I either can’t be arsed to sit at a desk in another room from the mrs or she wants my company, bless!

Also the desktop is a fair few years old now so a modern laptop would probably offer comparable performance.

Finally, I *ahem* have access to Sky Go but I can only use it on a single machine so it would be nice not to have to drag that big tower downstairs when I want to watch it on the TV (tried various ways of streaming but none work). I don’t use it often but its nice for the occasional sports or something TV show / movie.

In other words, it will have multiple uses, but I think I would get a lot more use out of it than I currently do with my current rig which to be fair is very nice, but it mostly collects dust.

Yeah, i know what you mean.

I bought this - https://www.gigabyte.com/uk/Laptop/Sabre-17#kf - a few years ago to do postprocessing on & a few other things.

Tried a few games on it & having done a few trackdays it ignited the spark to install rf2 on it, which snowballed into a bit of a simrig. Soon got fed up of unplugging everything from the laptop when i wanted to bring it downstair, so bought a PC. hehe

My other thought was streaming from my desktop to a cheaper laptop but I don't know how well it will work in reality.

Streaming what, games? Probably a no no, unless it's Freecell.

Yeah, via Steam, but I imagine they wont play all that well.

Not sure, I've never tried it.

It's a feature they push quite a bit, so it can't be that bad. I guess it depends on the route the traffic takes, etc....
