I've recently initiated a switch to Vodafone Broadband for phone and Internet as it seems I've been paying over the odds for quite a while with PlusNet.

So they've sent me a new router, the Vodafone WiFi Hub, which I thought I might use as my old Asus one is 802.11N whereas the Vodafone job is 802.11AC and has beam forming which might help with some of the dead spots in the house.

I currently have FTTC broadband (fibre to street cabinet, last few hundred meters over the telephone line). Does their router plug straight into the master socket i.e. no need for the OpenReach VDSL modem that I currently have? The instructions on the box aren't clear as it shows either connecting it directly or plugging the WAN port into a fibre modem but I'm wondering if this is for anyone who's lucky enough to have fibre coming directly into their house rather than to the cabinet? Googling doesn't help much either.

Thanks.

Ta.

I'll plug it straight in then and see what happens then, once they've done the switch of course.

Straight into the master socket.
From memory, if you want to use your own router (it will be better than the Vodafone supplied one) then you need to call up customer support to get your login details - user name & password (I did this with mine last year).
