Not sure if this is the correct area - please move if not.

I've got a 32-channel 8-bus mixer that I currently run through an 8 channel tascam interface. Problem is I need to run a few channels through pads as the mixer is too hot for those inputs (they are mic/instrument inputs).

Is there a modern audio interface that takes 8 or more hot inputs ?

I have good pre-amps in the mixer and outboard so pre-amps in an interface are wasted.

Many thanks

Turn down the gain on the input? or the volume on the output of your mixer.

Every interface I have ever used has had a physical or virtual gain control on the input.
As you mention an 8 bus mixer I assume the outputs are those 8 buses, so turn those down.

What are you doing when it gets to the computer? Personally I'd be sending individual tracks and mixing in the computer.

Maybe a link to the mixer woud be useful.

What level are the inputs you call 'hot' & how much are you trying to attenuate/drop them by? Many/most mixers hava mic/line selection switch on the input to select between low level mic sources & zero level line ones. You must have a pretty big signal to swamp a line input.

Thanks for the responses both -
To clarify - no issue with signal into mixer - mixing done on the mixer - it has +20db outputs which are too hot for some of the inputs on the tascam audio interface which requires me to use more outboard gear to pad the level on some but not all of those outputs. It works but it’s not ideal.
When looking to replace the audio interface with a newer one with more inputs I’m running into the same problems of a number of the inputs being mic or low line level requiring outboard padding of the signal.
I basically use the pc to run some effects and as a multitrack recorder. Stereo mix is then sent to analogue tape so I like to keep levels high until the last minute.
As I say it is only an issue on a few of the inputs on the audio interface.

Specs as below

Which Tascam interface do you have?

Still sounds like you need to turn down the group outputs to me but not sure I really understand your working method. I do all my mixing in the computer.

Would something like this work - https://www.thomann.de/gb/behringer_umc1820.htm
As it happens that's the interface I use. Line/instrument switch and pad on every channel.

Hi both
I use a Tascam US1200 - purchased long before I bought the desk.

That Behringer is the kind of thing I need but only gives me two more inputs - was hoping to get a few more. I’ll have a look at it though and see what others they have.
This is the issue I have :

And I have worked around it for a number of years with an external pad on those channels but I’m looking for an audio interface that gives me more physical input channels and can also take the hot level direct from the mixer on all chanels

Many thanks
