Hi all,

I've acquired a Sony Vaio laptop from work. All legal and above board. The issue is the IT guy sadly died a few weeks before Christmas and took the admin passwords and user names with him.

I want to use it as a basic laptop for my daughter to start doing homework on. Because it is locked down, I can't change the laptop time and can't therefore can't go on the internet either due to the date being 2008 on it!

Any simple ways of doing a hard reset which doesn't involve the F8 button approach during start up (it doesn't work)??

Download the ISO for Windows, lob it on a flash drive and change the BIOS to boot from USB. Then do a clean install from there.

Is it running Windows 7?

If so, download Hirens bootdisk onto a USB stick and boot from that. There’s some software on there that will allow you to remove any of the user account passwords. Then just leave the password field blank when logging on, then change it to whatever you like.

I did think of that but can't see how to get it to boot from USB.

Try leaving the USB in and reboot, most will have a boot order of removable media then HDD. If not just press the bios key on reboot and change the order in the BIOS
