No experience of this but I would be cautious of putting any information through a Facebook owned application. It's supposed to be encrypted end to end but they clearly are "listening in"....

Yeah, we use it. Very useful.

People can whatsapp our landline and it pops up on the PC.

As in a screenshot?

Yes. Leave it with me.

To give you perspective, we are a taxi company and often people will whatapp our business. We have a button on our website too. So for us it's great for quick quotes, answering questions like "do you do airport runs?" etc.

That's just the PC app that anyone can use, I use it all the time, it's good but it makes you wonder why they can't implement it without it funneling the messages via your phone. It works fine for a small business, but it won't scale well and is very 20th century.

Is there a separate business service that lets you integrate the messenger service with a website and let you reply from browser?

We are a small business! hehe

I'm not sure exactly how it works, but it pops up on out taxi controller screen. No mobile phone needed. Unless it goes via my wife's phone (she set it up) to the app on the PC?

It does go via the phone, ask your Wife to put her phone in Airplane mode and the service will stop. I've just tested it. It used to have to be on the same WiFi network (I think) so it would stop if your Wife simply wasn't in the office, so it's a bit better than it was.

I asked the question because 'm not sure it's what the OP is asking about and curious to know if there's another service out there for WhatsApp traffic that is independent of a mobile phone.

She isn't in the office right now, and I'm certain it works fine when she's away. So you are probably correct, it is a bit 'old fashioned' in how it works.

I guess you won't normally notice, but if your Wife is out and goes through a signal blackspot you won't get messages. You can see on your screen whether an individual response has been sent, delivered and read, so you might notice. If you have heavy traffic, a mobile wife and poor signal you might notice quiet spots and a glut of messages when she's back online.

It might not matter for you, but you would think it wouldn't be necessary to run it that way and there's obvious problems as a business gets bigger. The solution is a business phone sat in the office on a network with good signal, but it shouldn't be necessary.

The traffic is small admittedly.

We do have a mobile in the office that is linked to our despatch system, it sends text alerts to tell you your taxi is on the way, arrived, etc. So we could put it on that I suppose.

Anyway, I see your point and it's valid. This works for us at the moment though.

Sounds like an excuse for your wife to buy a new phone and leave hers in the office. Dont tell her.

I imagine whatsapp for business does. Since it's the same company as Facebook.
