Hi all,

I use a MacBook Pro with 2 x USB C ports on it, and many of my new peripherals/chargers have now changed to USB C, even my latest monitor is a USB C connection.

This obviously means I need multiple USB C ports to plug everything into, and I can’t seem to find anything anywhere.

I can find limitless amounts of the ‘old’ USB hubs, but no C versions.

Am I missing something?

I understand C to be an improved replacement for the older USB standards, so why am I having trouble finding a hub for all my stuff?

Thanks!

Belkin do one ... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017H9CF1S/

But it effectively only provides one additional USBC port over what you have already.

I think he is after say a four USB C ports into one type thing not a multi adapter like posted. If that’s true then you can’t buy them because you can’t put more than one USB C into itself because of the wattage that it could potentially draw as they can take 100 each

Correct

My laptop has the sum total of 2 USB C ports.

I now have a selection of USB C peripherals that my laptop needs to dock with when at home.

Even stuff like my new memory sticks are USBC

I see.

In that case I’m not sure this is progress?

I appreciate more things are becoming wireless but the beauty of USB in general is that you can easily connect or daily chain almost limitless peripherals from only one socket.

Are we going backwards?

I've got an HP laptop which uses a USB-C charger. But it only works with the specific USB-C charger supplied by HP.

So much for the "Universal" part!

USB-C has generally been a bit of a disaster in terms of compatibility and interoperability.

Interesting article on the subject here: https://www.androidauthority.com/state-of-usb-c-87...

Amazon - Sitecom 385 for normal C to C hub. The 386 has a full power out over USB C added but they're out of stock.

Can't see the issue with a normal USB C to USB A hub though for the majority of uses though?!

Certainly beats micro-USB for reliability of connector - we're forever replacing the kids' micro-USB cables and one of their Fire Tablets has a knackered socket. USB-C and Lighting connectors are much more robust.

The issue is obvious.... he has USB C devices

And the vast majority of USB C devices come with USB A -> USB C leads in the box?
The only thing I own that is USB C I can't do it with is a 'proprietary' HP laptop charging port but it makes no difference to that regardless of A or C.

Depends what it is. Not if it’s something which will be making use of the current draw that a USB A can’t achieve

Yes.

Keeping it simple, my daily setup is:

MacBook Pro with 2 x USB C ports.

Whilst sat in a client office or suchlike, I have:

1 x ASUS MB16A portable 15” monitor for dual screen working - this is powered/connected via one USB C cable to the MacBook.

1 x USB C Sandisk memory stick with my work/files stored on it.

1 x standard Apple USB C charger, which is plugged in all day while I’m working.

So already I’m one port short!

I have a couple of hubs that allow my MacBook to connect to numerous ‘old’ USB cables and has USB C power delivery etc, but was just looking for a simple multi USB C hub that allowed me to plug multiple USB C devices to my MacBook while out and about at work.

I have posted a solution for that case.

I did say the vast majority of cases, not all.

In this instance it can be solved with a simple cheap hub or one expensive hub? The options are out there and available.

Edited: Because you don't even need anything over a cheap USB C passthrough given that monitor comes with a USB A to C cable in the box.

I would suggest you look at a hub with USB-C power pass-through, so that you don't need to take up a separate port for power.

At work I use a BelkinThunderbolt 3 Pro hub which delivers power-in and gives a couple of USB-C out ports plus a bunch of other Ports

When travelling I use a Keychron T110 portable hub (other vendors have similar offerings) that I plug my MacBook power adapter in to and it delivers power through the same port as it uses for monitor and USB 3 ports. Then you'd need an adaptor or cable for your USB-C peripherals

Using either of these, I can do everything I need through one port on my MB Pro, driving monitor, backup disk, headphones

Edited to add - USB dual drives with USB-C at one end of the stick and USB-A at the other are useful as well
