Hello after a new monitor or 2 been working at home for.over a year now getting by with laptop screen 15.5 1080 and an old 22" tv running 1680x1080

im sick of it! i dont game but do photo editing so assume im after an ips panel.

So 2k vs 4k multiple monitors vs ultra wide
Budget up to maybe 650 ish but less is better!

Need displayport, hdmi and dvi if going for 2 monitors due to age of corporate laptop dock

Any suggestions

I went through a similar dilemma a year or so ago - considered a multiple set-up & various widescreen monitors, ended up with a Dell 34" Ultrasharp (U3415W) & couldn't be happier.

Some of its spec's are no longer cutting edge, but it's a good monitor that just performs very well. I use it for tethered shooting, editing in Photoshop & office applications, its great at all of them & I can't express what an advantage it is to have 3 fully open programs running side by side without having to use scroll bars or shift windows around, its a huge productivity boon & makes working on a "regular" monitor pretty hard to go back to. Only downsides are it's big, heavy & expensive.

Price wise, it's available for around £600 from Ballicom or CCL.

The above is a good shout, but I might be inclined to look at a 32" 4k - you should get more pixels per pound. Probably not stretching to two for your budget just yet, but I'd get one now and bank the cash for a second later - it's a bit of an odd time for monitors at the moment with everyone suddenly working from home, a lot of prices are inflated and models sold out.

Just be mindful that most big screens these days are a 'TV' aspect ratio of 16:9 and not 16:10

Old tech now but I have a pair of Dell 2412M's that are great and can sit in front of them for hours.

I'd also budget for a USB docking station (D6000 or similar) so you just have to plug in a single cable.

I run a pair of Dell S2817Q displays. They are TN panels so not the best for accurate colour work but they are fine for office type scenarios. 28" 4k with plenty of inputs. Not sure what the current equivalent is (these are 2017 products) but I got them for about £300 each

If running old corporate software, you might want to test how it works on a scaled display before purchasing something with a high resolution that would require scaling. Lots of old software doesn't scale properly with the scaling at anything other than 100%.

yeah my personal laptop suffers with scaling issues as its a 4k panel

My work laptop i doubt will output 4k so would have to scale a 1080 input but personal one is capable of 4k

I've only got 2 old, old school 20 inch 1600x1200 monitors at the moment - now I'm tempted to expand them!! Arghghhg!

I went for the Dell Ultrasharp U2719D. It's 2k @ 2560x1440 which after much research appeared to be the sweet spot for a 27" monitor, for what I need it for anyway.

I love it, it's a nice bit of kit! Looks good and well built.

I don't like dual screens, the bezels bug me - prefer a single, larger screen. I bought an LG 32QK500 last year, 2K 32" IPS screen with Freesync and I paid about £250 from Amazon. I also use mine for photo editing and I previously had an LG ultrawide but found that the extra wide aspect wasn't ideal for Lightroom or Photoshop as with the photos being typically around 4:3 there was a lot of empty, grey space either side of them, even with the tool bars set as wide as they'd go. 16:9 works much better and the large panel is great for editing. I calibrate my screen fairly regularly with DisplayCAL and it was almost spot on straight from the box and never really seems to drift.

I replaced two Dell 2515 (2650x1440) last year with 2x LG27UD59 (2x4k).

The dell were brilliant with virtually no bezel, the LG’s have approx. 1/2” each. But you get used to it if the windows don’t overlap.

However, the increase in screen area with 2x4k is great, SQL server, outlook, SAP and office each take 1/4, so each window is 1980x2160, which is generally more than enough to be getting on with, on the rare occasions I need more (SQL really), I can just go full-screen on one of them.

Should be <£300 each & come with display port & hdmi(x2). I’d buy them again.

Right im still bloody looking!
thought id decided on the benq pd2700 but stock seems to be an issue

Could go cheap with the electriq 27" 1440 95hz ips at £219 or the hanspree HQ272PPB 27" 1440 60hz at £200

but there is so much choice!

Price looks a bit inflated at the moment based on camelcamelcamel and I'd buy speakers separately if that's at all important. 1080p seems a little low on resolution for price and size, I'd be looking for 2560x1440.

But I'm always after more pixels and if you need a monitor now they probably all have inflated prices at the moment.

Non-retinal displays look very poor on Mac OS as the OS basically assumes retinal displays and there is no sub-pixel font smoothing anymore. You really want 4k at 27"

Space is an issue where I keep the desk, ie the depth pf the desk is not massive and a 27 inch monitor would be too close. is there such a thing as a 21.5" 4k monitor? I know I could buy an iMac 21.5" 4K as an alternative.

LG used to do a 22" one. Think it might have been discontinued
