I just got a used iPhone SE. The battery health is 90%. It seems to drain comically fast. I have a Mophie battery case, but it’d be nice to not rely on it.
Could it just need a new battery? The percentage seems to drop 2% at a time, sometimes more and then it’ll keep dropping quickly. I had a 6s a few months ago with 95% battery health which lasted much longer.

Any ideas? Only went to this iPhone for WiFi calling (only cost £55)

Should’ve kept the 6s really, I sold it to try a Pixel 2 XL, but that was a mistake...

In the battery section in settings what’s using the most battery % wise?

Is iOS up to date?

Apple charge £50 for a new battery fitted.

Local asian phone shop usually about £30 I think.

It’s on 13.3 currently. Only got it yesterday.

YouTube used a lot, but I knew that. I don’t have really any mobile coverage where I live (which is why I need WiFi calling) so that’ll probably kill it more. My 6s never seemed to be affected too much by it.
The battery percentage drops by 2% at a time most of the time.

But would changing a 90% health battery make much difference?

I may just get rid of it then...
it’s dropped 11% ridiculously quickly. Perhaps I’ll find another 6s to use.

Or keep this as a backup as it was so cheap

A quick google suggests that it has a 1,624 mAh battery.
That's about half the capacity of any phone I've looked at, and less than a third of the cheapo mobile I bought the missus so I'm afraid it is never going to be great on battery life. frown
One of the cons of smaller handsets I guess.

I suppose... my other phone is a Moto Z Play which lasts for days... but no WiFi calling. So it’s tricky really.

A 6+ or 7+ has almost double the battery size of the SE.

I have had an SE since new.

The battery has started to drop off a cliff in the last few months.

I run the most up to date iOS and my max battery capacity is 92%.

Charge would usually last me a day and a half but now having to charge at least once a day and I am not a heavy phone yet either.

I assume it’s either just age or the latest iOS which is doing its usual Apple job of pushing me to buy a new phone!

Does the battery check say it’s at Peak Performance Capability?

I have crappy coverage at work and it drops like a stone there, dropping in steps like you've described. A few years ago I don't think it was as bad but the coverage coincidentally got worse at about the same time for everyone.

Good reception and its far far better.

It says my battery is currently supporting normal peak performance.

Unless it is a non-Apple battery? If it was done on the cheap it may report this falsely?

Hope not, I purchased the phone from Apple and it’s not had a replacement battery yet!

The phone is only just over a year old. I would guess the battery issue for me is the lack of signal at home. Next week when I'm at work with good 4G reception I'll see if it drops as quickly.
I've had a few 6s' over the years and a couple of 6s Plus', the reason I got rid of them is because they all got dust in the top left corner of the screen by the mute switch. It is a well known issue and is a design flaw. I loved my 6s plus at the time, but the dust issue put me right off, which is partly why I now wanted to try an SE as it shouldn't have the same dust issue.
I do like my android phones, with the Moto Z Play being my favourite that I've had, but I really want WiFi calling as it takes the worry out of not having reception when expecting calls etc...
I suppose I could use the iPhone as a phone with the SIM card in and keep my Moto Z Play for YouTube and browsing when at home.
I used to spend hundreds on phones, but nowadays I just don't see the point when cheaper phones do everything the £1000+ ones do.

I'm glad that it's not just my 128GB iPhone SE battery life that is shockingly poor, my SE is just over one year old and I'm lucky if it lasts the day out without needing to charge it. The 'About' page states that it's running iOS 13.3.1.

I make very few phone calls or videos, don't do facebook, and tend to use it to view PistonHeads, Autotrader, Amazon, eBay, Daily Wail, Flickr, plus a few other websites, plus picking up emails, I rarely watch Youtube videos on it so I don't understand why the battery life is so rubbish.

Interestingly I also have a very old iPhone 3GS which still charges up to 100% and works perfectly well for several days between charges, though it is only used on wifi since it was replaced by the SE, what this demonstrates is that somewhere along the line is that perhaps Apple have changed the specifications for the batteries.

Can anyone on here recommend a longer life battery to fit because something needs doing and the official batteries fitted by Apple don't seem to be very good (some might say crap quality) judging by my own experiences and those posted by other users.

I think I may actually hold onto the SE for a few months and then source a used iPhone XR online for £300 or less. Not ideal, but it seems to be the best option for battery life and price overall.

Pain in the arse, but do other providers have better coverage where you are?
