Hi

My 10yr old wants to be an illustrator and is showing a lot of talent and enthusiasm in fairness has been cranking out some really good stuff on her ipad. She also has a pen.

Recently been asking for a drawing tablet and I stupidly left it to the wife to look into and got told they are around £100. Agreed to buy one as it will apparently be better than ipad + pen.

Went to order one and it looks like they need a PC or Mac to work with so are not stand alone and unlikely to connect to the ipad.

At this stage I'm losing the will to live as I just can't stand technology these days.

So does anyone know about these drawing tablet things and can they be bought as standalone or ipad connect for around £100 ?

If not what good animation / illustration software for ipad recommended?she has outgrown flipaclip and IBS paint.

Many Thanks
Mike

Sounds like what your after is (probably) a Wacom Bamboo Sketch. I haven't used one, but I've got several wacom tablets. As a general rule you dont look at any other manufacturers for graphics tablets. Wacom have been doing it for a long time and that's all they make. You'll just need the right drawing app to pick up the pressure and pen angle. I doubt any of these are free so factor that into the cost. Theres a list on thier websitenof compatible apps.

The stand alone pads are for professional use really - photo editing work, rendering, illustration and animation and good ones are expensive and require a computer. They're only input devices like a keyboard or mouse and are super precise.
