Hi all, I'm calling upon the computing collective knowledge of PH in the hope you can help me fix SWMBO computer. (I know I'm a klutz, I hope its easy to fix!!)

Quite simply the computer isn't showing any network to connect too..

For a bit of background, SWMBO was complaining that the computer was playing up by 'hanging' at any given moment. The computer is only a couple of years old and I couldn't see any reason why it might do this. Looking on task manager to see what was running in the background and putting a demand on the CPU I could see something called 'Wmiprvse.exe' causing a bit of a demand. To cut a long story short I went into 'services.msc' and disabled it.

This is where it all went a bit wrong. It didn't really have any affect on the computer and when I put it back to 'automatic' and restarted the computer I lost the WiFi.

I thought it might have something to do with my network adapters in device manager, but when I right click on them all they are apparently working fine.

This is where I turn to you, can anyone help shed some light on this, or give me any pointers on what else I can try? I've got to the end of my limited knowledge of what to do.

Thanks in advance

Go back into services.msc and re-enable it. At least that will get you back to square 1.
You can then look up: https://searchwindowsserver.techtarget.com/definit...

Whilst you're at it, delete any of your Internet history you may have left on here hehe

Thats the problem, re-enabling it is the first thing I did. I still have no sign of any network showing. frown

I dont have to worry about deleting the internet browser, its my wifes computer, I mainly surf with my ipad.... wink

First check if the wifi is even scanning and seeing any networks.
If not, just reinstall the wifi driver.
Try plugging a network cable in to get the internet in the meantime.

Have you rebooted the laptop?

I know very little about these things but can't you just restore from a previous time?

Windows key + R

type ncpa.cpl

Can you see the wifi connection and is it disabled?

If it is disabled try to re enable it if not more digging is required.

Just do the first bit too remove the WiFi adaptor from your listed hardware. Do not remove the drivers. Then scan for hardware changes. It should pick up that you have a network adaptor that isn't listed and reinstall it with the drivers it already has.

Some rebooting may be required.

Good luck.
