Hi all,

i've got an MSI laptop, it's alright but could do with a bit more punch now as it's starting to show it's age.

I tend to work from a desk but would still like to keep the laptop - one of the reasons I got it was it's got thunderbolt connectivity. I wanted to add an external GPU at a later date, well, 3 year on that later date has come but the enclosures don't seem to have become more reasonably priced!

I was hoping I could get a normal enclosure, stick a new GPU in there and from the magic of wires and guesswork, connect it to my laptop via thunderbolt....or something like that. Then at least I can slowly buy a few more bits and fill the enclosure, turn that into a more long term PC and use the laptop for trips away.

so, is it possible or is that why they're so expensive.

It's "or something like that", these thunderbolt enclosures have more in them than just a couple of bits and space for graphics card.

I'm interested in this also. Does anyone have any experience of external enclosures? Do you get any bottlenecking? My laptop (Aorus X7V7 with 1070ti) does a decent job, but I would like a bit more go from DCS in VR so was considering a 2080 in box rather than a whole new PC.

Aorus have a new gaming box coming out. Not even that much more than the card itself.

shame they don't just sell the bloody box, 2080 is bit rich for my blood.

Thanks! Hopefully being Aorus there should be fewer headaches making it work!

yeah for sure. I think I'm gunna need to opt for a Razor core X.

my laptop is only running a 970m so anything from the 10 range should give it some more punch. But I want to use the case as a bit of a hub too i.e plug the laptop in and instantly connect to two monitors, keyboard, mouse, external hard-drive etc.

so I think it's looking like the razor will do just that....here's hoping anyway
