Morning all.

Lenovo laptop
Windows 10 Home 64 bit.

Do I need any extra antivirus sotware? I put Avast Free stuff on but not sure if it's unnecessarily clogging up the RAM.

Thanks.

Well I'd say yes & pay for a decent one. I'd also look into recent privacy & data collection issues your current supplier has experienced.

Windows solution is fine for most users. Install uBlock origin and avoid dodgy stuff and you'll be fine.

This. Plus most of the other vendors have a sideline in hawking crapware/scareware, including Avast IIRC.

I quite liked Avira until recently, but then they started bundling a fake optimisation app and "driver updater" with their free solution that "found" loads of nonexistent problems and asked for money to fix them.

I don't think anyone needs to pay for AV in this day and age, unless you're an enterprise who wants a centralised management console or EDR functionality.

This- used windows defender and have ublock installed (used to have Adblock plus) for years and never had any issues

Note: always say 'Ublock Origin', as 'ublock' was bought by Adblock Plus!

Also uMatrix is also worth the 'hassle' of it.
