I bought one of the family an ipad mini, now they are saying they think someone is reading their emails, as new emails (almost certainly replies from prior emails) from one sender aren't coming up in bold? They are convinced someone has access.

I tried changing the password for Gmail, but that doesn't appeared to have solved the problem.

So how so I do a full reset on an apple device (I have always had android since everything went "smart"), the only time I have used apple is buying and setting upone, so not that familiar.

I have looked in the settings. The is one setting named "Erase all content and settings" will this do the job if someone does have access?

Any other ideas?

Very unlikely that someone would have access to the iPad itself. Have they gone into their Google account settings to see what other devices are signed in?

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201351 for full reset instructions.

I’d then get signed in on that newly reset device, change password (to one not used before and not shared with any other service), enable 2FA and sign out all other devices from that google account.

Assuming this is the GMail app we're talking about, new replies to back-and-forward emails don't appear in bold - only the sender's name who has responded will be in bold on the subject line. They will be at the top of the list of unread emails, however.

If you click the Settings icon and then select only Unread Emails to appear (rather than the default of All Mail), this should show whether the suspicions are true or not.

Doing a factory reset won't necessarily help, because if someone does have access and changing the password hasn't (apparently) helped, the problem almost certainly lies with another device or PC.

Thanks for that, I will give it a look. There should only be two devices; the ipad and my laptop (they occasionally do that when they want a keyboard). Thanks

It is far more likely someone have access to the Gmail account than access to the iPad.

Go to https://myaccount.google.com/security and you can view all linked devices and sign ins etc, see if anything jumps out.

As always it is a good idea to reset the password and enable 2FA.
