Landline phones in 2020
Discussion
The Motorola DECT phone I’ve had for about 15 years seems to have died, it isn’t getting a dial tone (I’ve replaced the cable between socket and base, but still no luck), so I am looking to replace it.
Is there a way of using mobile handsets to take the landline calls? Or are DECT phones still the default? If so, are there any features to look for?
As to why we still have a landline - we need it for broadband, and our house has been in my wife’s family for over 70 years, so they all know and use the number.

Yes, you can use call divert....
I can see why you continue to have a landline - but I don't have one anymore. Everything is on the mobile and my broadband is via EE.

I use one of these. Not only allows me to use the mobile on the landline in the house, but anywhere else in the world with an internet signal.

OP
BT 4600 Twin or Triple set
Great sound quality good call blocking facilities and you can even record calls.
Big though and a bit ugly
But they just work really well
EDA (edited to add) that if I were the OP I would keep the landline
I wouldnt choose to rely on a mobile phone. If your local transmitters go down or some other issue then you are off
A few weeks ago there was an issue with calls to mobile numbers that had been ported not getting through.
I may be old fashioned but our landline is still used and in our case disconnecting it wouldnt save much money.
A good quality DECT phone will pretty much last a long time

Broadband fell over this week and an open reach engineer had to come out to fix it. I thought for a moment that it may have been related to the phone dying, but unfortunately not.
Thanks for the other options suggested, however I will probably just get another DECT phone at some point.

No connection with them except as a BT pensioner and as such I ( and employees get a discount). Before I found that out I noticed that their prices to the public are lower for some DECT than Asda. And if you know a pensioner (or even a BT person) , .............................................

Found the same when looking for replacement DECT and also my telephone/skype/conference call headset, but be warned when I bought my headset it naughtily defaulted to £10 next day delivery rather than free option.Craikeybaby said:
