Flagship killer becomes flagship maker with flagship price - anyone bought one?

Odd marketing in the UK I think, 256gb only available in green! Punch hole was a deal breaker for me anyway but green!?! WTF! And 30W wireless charging only available if you pay extra to uncripple the hardware, FRO.

Now OP have moved into the big league who's going to replace them as the next up and coming flagship killer at mid range prices?

My OP7 Pro is still super-competent. No chance I'll be looking for a single step replacement this year.

I have OP5 and am more tempted by the OP7, 100% screen is preferable to OP8 punch hole. If I had an OP7 already I wouldn't be upgrading.

What they've done here isn't bad. They've combined the Qi standard with their proprietry tech. So you can use any Qi compatible charging pad and get what is currently the max charging rate for mobile phones (5W), or you can invest in OPs product to enable the 30W tech that isn't yet a standard.

You don't miss out at all.

As clever as it is though, I still haven't forgiven OnePlus for sending data back to China despite opting out of it, so will not be buying regardless.

The run of the mill model which will be the most popular I’d wager is £599 that’s quite some distance from flagship pricing and their to tier model is still 20% adrift from other true flagships.

I still love my 6T. Can't see any reason to change it.

I watched the MKBHD video on it yesterday
https://youtu.be/LTDuGU38-70

Interesting that they have gone to a hole punch camera in the screen instead of the pop up camera the 7 Pro had with no notch or punch hole. Would that be to get the IP68 dust/waterproof rating?

Not sure. I went with the 7T over the pro partly because I didn't want a camera that could be accidentally knocked off, or just fail purely because it's a moving part.

Happy with the 7T for now, can't see me upgrading for a year or two.

I've got the oneplus 7 and watched the MKBHD video on the 8, i'm not tempted to upgrade, I feel like the loss of the pop up selfie camera is a downgrade. I won't make the change.

My OnePlus 3 still seems to get security updates & I doubt I'll bother changing it until that stops. It's a good phone.

Weird isn't it.

I just want to open the box switch it on and find that everything i want is there ready for use. I am sure in Techy world there are loads of things that can be done on an Android that cant be done on an iPhone, cant think of any that I would EVER want to do.

When i had my CLA the guy at Merc said that almost ALL the issues they had with Bluetooth was from android phones, like 99.9%. Weird how my iPhone worked from the day i got the car to the day i got rid of it, the Android maybe 30% of the time.

Like I said Android is great for low end phones but everything else is just a compromise, its like iOs but a little less easy.

I would happily pay £500 for an iPhone to avoid the nastiness that is Android.

Car manufacturer infotainment systems are of course notoriously technical masterpieces.

Why you'd compare the problems of a handful of phones to tens of thousand of phones as if that's a level playing field I'm not sure.

I'm the same - I had a OnePlus 3T which was a great phone but swore I'd never have another after that regardless of how good their phones are.

Can you run two physical SIMs in you iPhone?
What about two having two instances of Whatsapp?
Can you expand the memory?
How about a customisable little light on the front to show a missed message/call/email?

iPhones are expensive wk.

I've had my OnePlus 5T for just over two years now and I am looking to chop it in for something else, so I watched the live reveal video and have watched a couple of reviews from MQB and MrWhoesTheBoss. Both naturally rave about it because its their livelihood to do so!

I made the switch following years of iPhones. The phones were becoming more and more expensive and I was pretty fed up with iTunes too. I sold my iPhone to Mazuma and haven't looked back. I will never go back to iPhones now.

My biggest disappointment is the lack of wireless charging on the 8 and no blue on the colour options. I have had black phones for years and really fancied something different this time.

Also the costs have gone up a lot. I paid £500 for my 5T with 128Gb. Base model 128Gb 8 is £599 and the 256Gb hasn't been released in the UK yet and that will e even more. 256Gb 8 Pro is £800!?! Forget Oppo if you want a budget option as well as that is even more for the top model. OnePlus 6 month rotation also means you loose a lot on each device every six months. They also don't discount previous models when the new ones come out. Thnk they are missing a trick there. Give it 12 months and their top phone will £1000 like the other two big players.

I think there is space for Xiaomi to take over as a more budget offering (IE what OnePlus used to be)

I shall probably go for a 7T Pro. Gets great reviews and will be a decent upgrade when compared to my 5T. The 5T is not a nice looking phone IMO. Needs a case for it feel expensive compared to an iPhone or a Samsung Galaxy.

Wife has P30 Pro and the camera is amazing and she made the move from iPhones and despite a few shakey weeks she has been fine and has allready said she won't go back to iphones ever again.

OnePlus 8 (not Pro) MKBHD video https://youtu.be/OHP1rLwR6r8

1080p 90hz screen, not 1440 120hz
No IP68
No wireless charging
Lower spec camera
