I've a 2010 mbp which stopped charging a couple of years ago from the loads of reading i did at the time I understood it was a logic board issue.
It has been on my list of things to sort out but just never got round to it.

Is it worth fixing and who with or how do I go about it? I mean it dos have loads of stuff on there I'd like to have access to, old pictures and whatnot.

Just pull the hard drive to access the stuff you want. Get yourself a cheap chromebook.

A new logic board is circa £600 from Apple.

A lot for a 10 year old machine.

Especially a old machine that was out of support a long time ago and no longer gets OS/Security updates.

I ran the same machine for a while with SSD and 8GB installed and it worked well, even with a new battery fitted though it didn't last long at all.
