Best, is very subjective. Both me and the missus have Samsungs that fall in your price range (A40 & A20) no issues with either
No doubt the next poster will be on saying how rubbish they are.

There have been some good deals on Hotukdeals this week for mobiles around that price.

Honor 10/Moto G8 Plus/Google Pixel 3a have been available in the £170-190 range.

I'd probably go for the Pixel 3a but any of them would be a good purchase at this price.

Alternatively there is the new Redmi Note 9S from China at £125 if you're happy to take a punt.

Falls into Pixel 3a range and your guaranteed OS/Security updates ASAP, a lot of these cheaper handsets take ages to get them.

3a will be due Android 11 around October, bet a lot of these cheaper ones haven't even got Android 10 yet.

I recently bought a Pixel 3a and think it's great. However I haven't seen any for as cheap as £180.

The best deal I saw was from Voxi for £240, which you can pay for at £8 per months over 30 months interest free.

Anything cheaper was refurbished at the time - something I am always wary of because you never know the state of the battery.

Me and the wife both have a g5

Current contenders for replacement are g8 plus or Samsung A40. Both sit around £200 if £180 is your absolute max then a g7 is a good phone too.

Personally I avoid the 'chinese' brands... I'm fully aware Lenovo make motorola but just struggle to buy one.

I'm also very tempted by the 2020 iPhone SE, although it's double my usual budget (I usually stick around £200)

I recently got a Samsung A20e, locked on vodafone, but a quick call unlocked it to use my Plunet SIm. I came from a Note 4, I prefer the smaller size, USB C charging, miss the OLED. TBH it is perfect for what I use - music, whatsapp and browsing. For £99 it was a bargain. Updated to Android 10 last week too.

Honor 9x or Honor 10 (both slightly over budget at £200.00)

Well worthy of consideration.

I really don't think you can go too far wrong with the moto g series.

I'm typing this on a g6+ and will probably upgrade in the near future to the g8+

If you can get a Pixel 3a within budget then definitely go for that, I have a Pixel 2 XL which I still think is a great phone, sadly it's wearing out now and I'm going to go to a Samsung because I'm finding equivalent models are cheaper for the XL versions I like but I'd still have a Pixel phone in a heartbeat if the prices were better

I went from a G5+ to a Samsung A70 that was on offer, more than happy with the Samsung and would do it again.

I have a g5 too and am looking to upgrade - too rarely now do I get out the slr, but would like some half decent photos of the little ones.

Looks like the 3a is now £420 over 30months on voxi, so thats a clear no go (I just want sim free).

I'll wait and see what the 3a drops too when the 4a comes out. If I could buy a 3a for c. £200 i'd happily do so now - but not refurbished.

If you can get a Pixel 3a for £180 then go for it. If not the Nokia 6.2 is in budget and runs stock android (Android One) so get updates as quickly as the Pixel does.
