PS4 Pro to gaming laptop or PS5?
Discussion
Hi all.
I'm a fairly keen gamer but more toward the casual side than the serious. I currently have a PS4 Pro. I have been considering going the PC route as I used to like strategy games (such as Commandos) played with the mouse. I have seen a second hand gaming laptop that - to my untrained eye - looks decent.
Spec is:
ASUS ROG Zephyrus S GX531GW 15.6in RTX 2070 Gaming Laptop
RAM: 16GB / Storage: 512GB SSD
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 8GB
And it is an i7...
Question is, is this a decent spec? Will it run VR with the appropriate hardware? Will the PS5, when it comes along, offer more for less?
Cheers.

The thing with laptops is even with the same hardware as a desktop they are considerably slower, due to the limited power available to the laptop form factors. I'm sure that laptop would be capable of simple VR titles but I image the actual performance would be similar to a desktop RTX2060, which isn't that fast these days, and were released over a year ago. Nvidia's new cards are due out sometime this year and should be a good bit faster. They are moving to a more advanced manufacturing node, which allows for bigger, more powerful chips.
That laptop will not be anywhere near on par with the new consoles, which should have RTX2080 levels of performance.
Edit: if you prefer strategy games then the PC is the logical choice, especially as these don't require the best graphics.

I could never go for a gaming laptop, too much flaffing about, however if you are on the road I can see the benefits.
Im thinking about dropping consoles and going for a gaming PC to play Flight sim 2020 rather than a console....also got a nipper on the way so no doubt I'll ever see my TV again for the next 18 years once it realises where the kids channels are.

It's a good spec laptop for now. Problem is (as a Razer Blade owner, I have experience of this), your laptop is the spec it is now, forever. A PC can be upgraded, but laptops are far more difficult to upgrade due to the packaging requirements. We did the boy a desktop gaming PC for Christmas because the opportunity to future-proof and configure how we wanted was there. The desktop is also cheaper than a gaming laptop for a better specification. I'm a fairly keen gamer but more toward the casual side than the serious. I currently have a PS4 Pro. The PS5 will run all PS5 games forever, the laptop will be good for 18 months to two years.
